Busisiwe Skosana For President!

Congratulations to Busisiwe Skosana who has been elected to the District Representative Council of Learners as Deputy President for 2011. Busisiwe is also the President of the current RCL. Athlone Girls' High supports Busisiwe as she undertakes this huge responsibility. We wish our future President well in her term of office.

Dineo Segobo holds the portfolio for Arts & Culture and Busisiwe Skosana for Sports & Recreation

As our Junior Counsellors Dineo and Busisiwe respresented us with honour. Both played a significant role not only in the projects of their own committees but also in supporting all other JCC activities. Although the counsellors do not always have a high profile at school, they are carrying our torch in the outside world & raising the recognition of all that we can offer. The broad exposure to leaders from many different backgrounds played a significant role in developing the skills Busisiwe displays as head of RCL and has shaped the values she brings to the role.

Nandi Khanyile and Brilliant Shabalala are the Johannesburg Student Council representatives. Under the auspices of the Johannesburg City Council, a Student Council was established and AGHS was invited to nominate counsellors. These counsellors were selected from within the RCL who voted for their representatives. Nandi and Brilliant served for two years in this capacity. Nandi served under the Speaker of the Gauteng Legislature and Brilliant served in the Youth Department. Both valued the opportunity of being groomed as leaders, gaining an insight into politics and seeking solutions for the social and environmental issues faced in our country.

Geraldine Dladla writes that the simplest things can change your future if you are willing to take the oportunity. Who knew that reading the monthly Free 4 All could change your future, your destiny? The advertisement brought hope as it was an exchange program for students who were interested in travelling to another country and pursuing their studies. I was excited and researched the possible countries that that i could choose. Finally, I chose Denmark because of the culture, academic opportunities and non-distracting environment.Once the form was submitted, the very next day my mum received a call informing her of an interview. After the interview I waited for three days before I got the wonderful ness that I was accepted into the exchange program. Now, I am preparing myself academically, emotionally and socially for my new adventure!
